From the Diggers on the battlefields of wartime Europe to communities who band together against the threat and aftermath of bushfires, drought and flood; Australians have an inherent capacity to act selflessly to show they care and retain a sense of humour under the most trying of circumstances.
A sporting bet made eighty years ago captured this spirit when two men journeyed from Beechworth in Victoria’s north east to the top of Mount Buffalo some 51 miles away, in a wheel barrow. The challenge was successfully met but the winner’s cheque was never claimed and the true prize, friendship, remains its legacy.
Barrowthon is your opportunity to honour that legacy and push your own barrow, literally, for a cause that matters to you.
The two day event will be gruelling but foremost it will be fun and by pushing yourself to show you care, you will raise funds and awareness for your own cause.
